More.
We live in a world of iniquity. Despite the lies the enemy may try to sell us, this place is not all it's cracked up to be. Many are yearning for ‘something’ more but continue looking for that something in all the wrong places.
1 John 5:19 “We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one.”
I once prayed for a young woman who wanted more money. Her request was quite literally, “More money”. However, as she elaborated upon her request, she explained that she really wanted more from life; a real purpose. Money can’t bring you purpose.
Proverbs 19:21 “There are many plans in a man's heart, Nevertheless the Lord's counsel--that will stand.”
How often do we express a want or need, only to have God reveal our true heart’s desire is much deeper.
Psalm 139:23-24 “Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting.”
In the midst of my marriage breakdown around nine years ago, I asked God for a baby. When I think back, I realise how unwise this request was. After God took a deep look into my heart, He showed me that my true yearning was not to care for and love another baby but to love my husband. Once God's perfect, excavating hand brought my true desire to the surface, He could begin to heal me with His love and in turn, miraculously, I was able to love my husband. The healing process was not easy, requiring much sacrifice, but all glory to God, my husband and I are still married today. (I hope to share more about God's amazing restoration of our marriage in a future post).
Psalm 147:3-5 “He heals the brokenhearted
And binds up their wounds. He counts the number of the stars; He calls them all by name. Great is our Lord, and mighty in power; His understanding is infinite.”
Eventually, God would also bless us with another baby, but instead of being used like a bandaid to try heal a marriage in cardiac arrest, our son came into a family, stablized in God's love and hope.
Psalm 24 “May He grant you according to your heart’s desire, And fulfill all your purpose.”
Today might be the day, to take a close look at what we believe we want or need in life and pray to God for a revelation. Allow Jesus to examine our hearts, to truly search the depths. May we all realise that the something we thought we really wanted is actually just a need, for more of Jesus.
Matthew 6:32-33 “For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”
With love,
Emma
